Dr. Simon C. Lin is currently the Project Director of the ASGC (Academia Sinica Grid Computing Centre), the WLCG Tier-1 Centre in Asia. In addition, he is also responsible for the DMCC (Disaster Mitigation Competence Centre) in the EGI-Engage (Engaging the Research Community towards an Open Science Commons) Project. ASGC assisted 30 sites in Asia Pacific region to join the global e-Science collaboration. Working with scientists of various disciplines, ASGC is successfully leading Grids/Clouds applications in Asia from High Energy Physics, Biomedicine, Bioinformatics, Earth Sciences, Climate Change, and Digital Archives to Social Sciences. He has published more than 500 scientific papers.
Dr. Lin has extensive experience in High Performance Computing. He oversaw Taiwan’s first supercomputer ETA 10 project in 1989, and built the first large scalable PC Farm in Taiwan in 1996. He leads the team to optimize COMCOT, a powerful Tsunami simulation software, up to 30 times faster. It’s now been incorporated into the Tsunami and Storm Surge early warning system in Taiwan. He is also a board member of APAN; he serves as APAN Chair from 2015 to 2017.
