Dr Marek T. Michalewicz is the Deputy Director at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM), University of Warsaw, Poland. Until September 2016 he was the Chief Executive Officer, A*STAR Computational Resource Centre in Singapore. Marek holds a PhD degrees in Theoretical Physics from the Institute of Advanced Studies, The Australian National University, Australia. He is a computational scientist, entrepreneur and inventor.
He founded Quantum Precision Instruments in 1999 in Australia and subsequently Quantum Precision Instruments Asia Private Limited (Singapore) and Quantum Precision Instruments, Inc. (USA) and remained their CEO and CTO for eleven years. While at A*CRC in Singapore, between 2014-2016 Marek was leading the InfiniCortex project, involving a large number of international contributors and sponsors, to create a global InfiniBand fabric connecting supercomputers across continents. The project culminated with connecting up to seven countries on four continents with InfiniBand, with dozens of applications running concurrently on the globally distributed concurrent computer. He established an annual “Supercomputing Frontiers” series of conferences in Singapore in 2015. Between 2009 and 2015 Marek was deeply involved in activities leading towards creation of the National Supercomputer Centre in Singapore.
